5 Keys To Meditate With Ease

 

One of the greatest gifts we can give to our children is to be less reactive to their emotionality.

It’s simple, you don’t fight fire with fire.

You use water.

It’s our job as parents to do the “inner work” on ourselves so that we can remain calm when our kids are dealing with the storms of emotions that are a natural part of their growth and evolution.

It’s not personal to you, so stop taking it that way.

Instead practice intentionally calming your nervous system and becoming less reactive to your own, thoughts and physical sensations…

through conscious breathing and self-lead meditation.

Personal example, just the other day I was sitting in my morning meditation and my body began to sweat profusely.

It happens these days every so often, as I’m going through a detox for mold toxicity.

Undeniably my attention shifted to it.

And part of me was very uncomfortable…

wanting to stop meditating and get up.

But instead I sat with it. Observed it and saw it as ‘healthy’ that my body was letting go of things that weren’t meant to be there.

I brought myself back to my breath and my mantra

and carried on calmly.

I became a silent witness to what was without needing to react to it.

I got to practice getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. That's an element of Self-Lead Meditation.

It’s a daily practice.

At the end of the day, the way in is the way out.

And as one of my coaches Preston Smiles says, really there are only 2 games going on at any time on this planet. Either the 'outside in game' where you're looking for external validation for your sense of self worth and meaning or the 'inside out game', where you turn within to establish a connection with yourSelf and something way bigger than you...SOURCE. Your validation is simply that you exist. You re-cognize that you've already won just by BEING.

This is what the practice of self-lead mantra meditation is all about. With consistent, daily practice...

  • You will become more PRESENT.
  • You will become more PATIENT.
  • You will become more LOVING.
  • You will become more PEACEFUL.
  • You will become more PLAYFUL
  • You will become more ADAPTABLE.
  • You will become more PURPOSEFUL.
  • You will become more PRODUCTIVE.
  • You will become more CONNECTED.

There are no two ways around it. You just have to get practicing.

Yet, at the same time, as the adults, it's our job/mandate 'to be the calm in the storm for our kids' and to still show up as the most loving, present and connected dads possible.
