It’s in the moments of decision that our destiny is shaped. I’m pretty sure Anthony Robbins said this. I’m a believer in these wise words. Fate is what happens if we simply move about our lives mindlessly. Yet, if before we “do”, we pause, take a breath and think, “how is what I’m about to choose to do or say going to affect not only my own happiness and peace of mind, but also those around me?”, we have the opportunity to shape our reality. 🙏
This morning I had that opportunity to choose. I was exhausted when the alarm went off at 4 am, so I fell back asleep and happened to wake up 30 minutes later. Now I knew this was going to affect my morning routine a bit. Based on everything I typically like to do, today I was only going to have 10 minutes to either sit in meditation or do the dishes, which were pretty piled up. My morning meditation is everything to me and often sets the tone for “my day”. So this should be a no brainer, right? And in the past when I lived by myself, there would have been no question what I’d choose...meditation of course. 🙏
But you see, my life is different now. I live with my amazing girlfriend/life partner @lizarch and our beautiful son. My world has expanded most magnificently. And it’s no longer just about me (and truthfully it never was, I just didn’t fully get that). This morning if I chose meditation instead of dishes, yes, I would be happier but that would mean that when Liz woke up and I was gone at work, she’d not only have to take care of Skye and our 2 doggies, but she’d also be coming down to a sink and counter full of clutter and chaos (which I know she doesn’t like). It would be one more thing piled on her plate. 🙏
Frankly my initial thought was meditation. But then I paused, took a few breaths and thought about Liz’s day. If I chose to do the dishes, it would help her out and hopefully take one thing off her plate, making her life, as well as Skye’s, a little easier. So what did I choose?
🙏
I chose to do the dishes and meditate as I worked. It was a win/win/win choice. This is why I meditate. So I can consciously evolve and choose more from a heart space of we rather than me. 🙏
May there be peace in our minds. AMB
