feeling mentally clear and calm, physically strong and vital; with your heart wide open and being fully present, playful, passionately supportive of your child/children.
How about knowing in your bones you're on purpose in the most important job of your life, feeling you can overcome any obstacle you encounter, fully alive & thriving as a Father.
This is absolutely possible for you! I can say this because it's happened for me. But it happened after I ate some 'humble pie'.
Let me explain.
Some men know they've always wanted to be a Dad. But not me. For 47 years of my life, it was nowhere on my radar.
But then it happened, I met Liz (my now life partner) and everything changed. We hit it off and low and behold, 4 months into our relationship, we found out we were going to be parents.
And guess what, rather than being thrilled, I fell apart. I experienced high anxiety, depression, insomnia which ultimately lead to a complete physical, mental, emotional and spiritual breakdown.
For 3 months of Liz's pregnancy, I physically wasn't there. I was away getting professional and familial help I needed to climb back out of the hole I had dug for myself. And it was a deep one.
And to be frank, it was actually about 5 total months that Liz was on her own, as for the first two months after we found out, I was emotionally absent as well.
Here I was, someone who had spent the better part of the last 20 years diving into the best in Personal Development, Self Help, Conscious Evolution and Spirituality and I was lost at sea.
This was a tough pill to swallow.
But what it did do was give me a huge piece of 'humble pie'. And that humility that comes from being brought to my knees, brought me to a deep sense of surrender to be open to something that was trying to emerge through me.
And that something was loving, present and connected FATHERHOOD.
From that SURRENDER, the healing began.
On my road to recovery, yes, I incorporated some traditional movement activities, that which we call 'EXercise'. But what really sped things up was the 'INercise' I did.
I dove deep into Conscious Breathing to self-regulate my nervous system and emotions and Self-guided Mantra Meditation to re-wire my brain for a deeper connection with life and Spirit.
And guess what, before I knew it, I was feeling grounded, even-minded and on-purpose.
And once you learn how to use them on the daily, they will serve you for a lifetime! In my next BLOG coming in a few days, Breathe + Be (Part 2) The Healing Power of Breath, I'll share with some super exciting information on the science of breathwork and how it can POSITIVELY impact your life and provide you with a clear vision to get you where you want to be as a Father.
